Corn
The constant, incremental yield improvements achieved in corn over the last half century are equaled by few other crops. Historical yield increases from genetic advances are widely recognized. Today's corn products are very different from those of 50 or 25 years ago, with notable improvements in yield potential, stress tolerance and stand establishment, and inclusion of biotechnology traits to help protect yield and expand management options. Yield gains have also come from improvements in crop management, including better soil fertility, weed management and planting practices. Just as importantly, yields have increased due to synergies of both genetic and agronomic advances. For example, genetic improvements in stress tolerance and leaf architecture combined with the practice of growing corn at higher plant densities has resulted in significant productivity gains.
DuPont Pioneer is dedicated to maintaining this relentless pace of corn improvement, both to meet global demand for grain and grower needs for increased production efficiency. To accomplish this will require the integration of new technologies into crop management systems to allow corn's full genetic potential to be realized. Our commitment to improved crop management is the foundation of our agronomy research structure - an industry-leading network of agronomists and researchers across North America. The mission of this team is to help maximize grower productivity by delivering useful crop management information built on rigorous, innovative research. DuPont Pioneer Agronomy Sciences conducts studies in growers' fields and other research sites across North America, including collaborative studies with university scientists.
